The Strategy Safety Net

Ukemi 受け身

Falls safely - your in-session safety net for disconnects, disabled strategies, and naked orders, recovering safely so a dropped feed never costs you.

Falls safely.

Your in-session safety net for the failures that happen quietly: dropped feeds, silently disabled strategies, naked positions, and limits creeping up while you are away.

Ukemi (受け身)

The judo art of falling safely. You will fall. The skill is not being hurt by it.

The four quiet failures

Automated trading does not usually blow up loudly. It blows up like this:

  1. A strategy gets disabled by NinjaTrader after a connection blip and never comes back. Your position sits there unmanaged for two hours.
  2. The feed drops or stalls, and your strategy keeps making decisions on stale bars.
  3. A fill leaves you with a position and no protective stop.
  4. Your account drifts toward a daily-loss or drawdown limit and nobody is watching.

Every one of these is silent. That is what makes them expensive.

What Ukemi does

It runs as a background service that starts with the NinjaTrader Control Center and monitors for the whole session, whether or not its window is open. Per failure class, you choose: alert, flatten, disable, or a combination.

Recovery, with guardrails. Set it to re-enable a disabled strategy automatically, and three protections apply:

  • It never re-enables into a position mismatch. If the strategy thinks it is flat and the account is long two, Ukemi alerts and waits for you. Re-enabling into a desync is how you get two positions fighting each other.
  • A 30-second reconnect debounce. A feed that just came back often goes again.
  • A flap guard. Three attempts per rolling hour, after which it falls back to alerting rather than fighting a broken strategy in a loop.

One place for limits. Tick “Use Fudoshin limits” and Ukemi reads the limits Fudoshin is already enforcing. No second set of numbers to keep in sync.

Session-boundary recovery. If strategies from your last session are not running, a banner tells you and one click brings them back.

Where it fits

Ukemi is the monitor. Fudoshin is the enforcer. Kiai is how you hear about it when you are not at the desk, which is exactly when Ukemi is worth the most.

Start conservative

Week one: alert only, no automatic recovery. Watch it call the failures correctly. Then turn on automatic recovery, knowing what it will and will not do.

Ukemi monitors and reacts to conditions it can observe inside NinjaTrader; it cannot prevent every failure, and platform, broker, or network faults may occur outside its visibility. Automatic strategy re-enable interacts with NinjaTrader internals and may be affected by future NinjaTrader versions, in which case Ukemi falls back to alerting.
